Redditch Young Foresters in the Heart of England Forest

A volunteering and adventure club for young people aged 12-18. Our Young Foresters have many adventures in the Forest, as well as taking part in a number of forestry and conservation tasks. The club runs on the fourth Saturday of every month.

The Heart of England Forest site Gorcott Hill is a beautiful 62 acre site near Redditch. The site contains semi-natural woodland, hedgerows, grassland and ponds, as well as a vast array of wildlife.

Redditch Mini Foresters
Saturday 28 September, 14:00 - 16:00

Mini Foresters is our monthly club in the Forest where children can enjoy activities in our wonderful woodland at Gorcott Hill . Each month the activities will change and reflect the seasons, the flora and fauna and the history and geography of the area. Come and join us for fires, dens, tool use, bushcraft skills, wildlife and the odd toasted marshmallow,

The group is intended for families with children between the ages 4-11 and runs on the last Saturday of every month all year round. Our entry ticket includes up to 5 people, at least one of whom is an adult responsible for the group.

Young Foresters in the Heart of England Forest
Saturday 5 October, 10:00 - 12:30

Young Foresters is a volunteering and adventure club for young people aged 12-18. Our Young Foresters have many adventures in the Forest as well as taking part in a number of forestry and conservation tasks: take action to combat climate change, benefit from spending time outdoors, improve your physical and mental health, forge new friendships and gain valuable work experience.

The young people attend independently supported by our experienced staff.

Saturday 5 October, 10:00 - 16:00

Learn to work with wood using hand tools to create your own spoon. Your instructor Craig Wood, an experienced and talented green woodworker will cover everything to get you started carving wonderful spoons.

All workshop materials and tea/coffee/biscuits are included in the price. Suitable for adults aged 18+ only.

Mini Foresters

Introduction to volunteering with the Heart of England Forest - October 2024
Wednesday 9 October, 18:30 - 19:15

If you are interested in volunteering with the Heart of England Forest, helping us establish and protect a huge new forest for the environment, people and wildlife – why not join us to find out more.

This informal event will be led by a member of the team and a volunteer leader. You’ll have the opportunity to hear more about the volunteer programme, and what you can expect from volunteering with the charity. There will be opportunity to ask questions and we’ll update you on the current priorities and opportunities across the Forest.

Our amazing volunteers help us with all aspects of creating and managing the Forest, including tree planting, wildlife surveying and events.

Guided Walk - Conservation Grazing in the Forest
Saturday 12 October, 10:00 - 12:00

Along with woodland creation, the Heart of England Forest features a mosaic of important habitats which are managed to conserve and enhance biodiversity. When it comes to grassland areas our livestock on the Forest farm play a significant management role. Sheep and cattle help us to improve our grasslands, through lying, trampling, dung and selective grazing benefiting bumblebees, reptiles, birds and more.

Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. This event is not suitable for dogs.

Saturday 12 October, 10.00-13.00

Join us at our Gorcott Hill education centre in the Heart of England Forest for a half a day of fun where you will get the opportunity to design and create your own nature themed tile with expert Dave. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your skills, this event is perfect for you. In this taster workshop you will get the opportunity to Design, carve and illustrate a terracotta tile using beautiful leather-hard clay. Create a low-relief design inspired by the woodland and the samples you have collected on a guided woodland walk.

Guided Walk: Exploring The Heart of England Forest at Sheriffs Lench
Saturday 19 October, 09:00 - 11:00

Come and explore the hidden beauty of Sheriffs Lench. Planting of this 430 acre area of the Forest took place over the last 4 to 5 years and includes a fledgling orchard, meadows in organic conversion, and views across the valley. On our walk we we hope to see members of the fallow deer herd and other wildlife including possibly foxes and hunting birds of prey, whilst enjoying the spectacular far reaching views.

Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs on leads are welcome.
