Tree planting programme
This winter season, we are aiming to plant 110,000 broadleaf trees between October 2026 and March 2027 at four new Forest sites.
The Big Forest Plant takes place in the autumn and winter months, as the young trees are in a resting phase and have no active leaf growth, meaning that each sapling can focus its energy on developing a stable root system.
Preparations underway
Every woodland starts with a seed, and our amazing volunteers help bring it to life!
Each autumn, we collect native tree seeds from across the Forest, carefully nurturing them in our tree nursery until they're ready for planting.
Before planting season begins, our volunteers get hands-on with grading and bundling saplings, making sure that only high-quality stock is taken to our planting sites.
This vital work helps us prepare for the Big Forest Plant, one of the busiest and most exciting times in the Forest, creating resilient future woodland to benefit wildlife and people.
