Forest Discovery Days are learning outside the classroom opportunities for schools to enhance their curriculum and experience all the benefits that a partnership with the Heart of England Forest can offer to their pupils.

Woodland Survival Day! (KS2/KS3)

Imagine your class are lost in the middle of a vast woodland and need to survive until help can be summoned. The only way you will survive is through teamwork and resilience.

Could be used to inspire writing back at school or as a transition/induction event.

Fantasy Forest! (EYFS/KS1)

Enter the world of fairy tales with a magical trip to the Forest where teamwork and STEM activities go hand-in-hand!  Refresh the stories, while carrying out tasks to help the characters.

Encourages resilience, speaking and listening, as well as being a tool for writing back in the classroom.

Wind in the Willows (Years 3/4)

Delve into the wonderful world of Ratty, Mole, Toad and Badger learning about their characters and reinforcing the plot of this classic childhood text.

Encourages figurative language development whilst linking to the science curriculum around animals their habitats.

Macbeth Madness (upper KS2 & KS3)

Gather in all ye want to be thespians! Fancy a day full of bloodshed (only acting) and treachery among the woods? Look no further than our introduction to Macbeth set in our very own woods: don’t let Birnam Woods come to you, but you come to Birnam Woods!

Develops performance skills and knowledge of Shakespearean vocabulary, focusing on themes and poetic conventions. Differentiated for different ages & ability levels.

Looking for a way to bring states of matter, reversible, and irreversible changes to life?

Look no further than our messy science day where you will indulge in a whole manner of investigations to consolidate classroom learning on these topics.

What have the Ancient Greeks done for us? (KS2)

Bringing Greek legacies to life, we will engage in recreating some of the iconic structures, as well as learning about the insect Olympic heroes that live in the Forest.

This history session will also tackle Greek theories of democracy, teamwork, and leadership styles.

A woodland banquet (KS1, KS2 & KS3)

Fancy yourself as a bit of a chef? Learn some outdoor cooking techniques whilst at the same time honing skills for the kitchen.

This DT session can be adapted to provide challenge to and cover KS1, KS2 or KS3 curriculum objectives.
